Wow! Finally made it to freshman year of my college life. As of right now, it feels absolutely amazing to be a college freshman! The classes seem like they are going to be cool and the teachers seem really down to earth. The first day is always the trickiest because you are just getting use how things work and you have to figure out the best (fastest) way to get to your classes and other little shortcuts that you learn as time progresses.
Now for my experience of UTOP so far. Two days in....it is amazing. I have already started to gel and connect with people I never met before. The relationships I am forming already are great because it makes the college transition easier. My mentors are really awesome too, because they have already shown that they care and are looking out for us. They are very genuine with us and don't have any problem talking to us like we are adults. Even though they are over us, they don't hover or try and dictate our lives and times here in the summer. True, I could have not come and had fun with my family and friends, but this experience is unlike any other. Summer school was definitely not something I wanted to come to because I didn't want to spend my summer learning, but being in UTOP is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that I have really fallen in love with from the start.
English 1101....where to start? Well, as of the first day of class it seems like it is going to move fast, but nothing that I cannot handle. I will just have to learn to really buckle down and get things done in a timely manner. I had issues with that all throughout high school, but now that I am accountable, I am striving to redo my life and work on the things that brought me down before and not them affect me now. My strengths in writing would have to be descriptive language. I do a lot of online RP (Role Play) sessions and they are all written in third person with no visuals so I have learned how to describe exactly what I am doing and create visual images with my words. Hopefully I can improve my writing by learning how to use punctuation and work on my formatting skills. Throughout this course and UTOP I am really striving to work on my time management skills, my work ethic, and my overall outlook on work and the manner in which it should be done.
Here's my List of "Good Stuff" that just shows what makes me happy and everything that I am looking forward to in the upcoming weeks.
★ Being away from home
★ Meeting new friends
★ Visiting my best friend when I get home
★ Being a COLLEGE KID!!!!
★ Seeing my little brother and sister
★ Getting in shape and getting healthier
Here's a List of "Stuff that makes me anxious". The title is pretty self-explanatory.
✖ Being responsible for myself
✖ Turning 18
✖ Leaving all my friends behind
After summer school and UTOP is over, I am hoping to start my transition from University College into a Computer Science major. Hopefully I can get a Computer Engineering Major too, or possibly a minor at least. I definitely want a minor in Communications with a focus in Public Relations. Hopefully if I can get a grip on my Spanish, I can travel abroad and go somewhere in Europe, Spain or England would be nice.
There are not many questions or concerns that I have as I embark on this new chapter in my life. I have gotten several "life talks" with my family and I feel like I never experience homesickness. Other than that, I will just have to ask the questions as they pop up during the summer and the fall semester.
One unique thing about me? Well, there are 10 years between me and my little brother. He is 7 years old. Another thing is that me and my siblings birthdays are all a week apart. Daniela, my little sister, is August 20. A week later, August 27, is mine. Another week, September 3, is my little brother Santiago's.
Kalyn, I think after 5 weeks in UTOP, you all will be an uber-organized, totally accountable students. I'm glad to hear you are up to the challenge! England is my favorite place in the world! If you get a chance to study abroad, definitely do it!
